Paul Joseph Reinhard, 97, of New Bern, North Carolina, passed away on Wednesday, May 28, 2025. His beloved wife, Anna Skripac Reinhard, preceded him in death on February 16, 2014, at the age of 88. Together, Paul and Anna shared 64 years of marriage, devotion to family, and unwavering faith.
Paul was born on March 24, 1928, in Fort Recovery, Ohio, to the late Charles Rudolph and Magdalena (Lauer) Reinhard. He was the youngest of seven children and began singing in the St. Joe Parish choir at a young age. After graduating from Fort Recovery High School, he secured employment at Equity Dairy, often walking or hitchhiking the 3.5 miles to work. In 1947, he began a 33-year career with the Cole-Layer-Trumble Company of Dayton, Ohio, providing appraisal and assessment services for municipalities, which relocated the family to numerous states over the years. He later worked for the State of New York in the Local Assessment Services Department in Syracuse until his retirement in 1990.
Anna was born on August 10, 1925, in Campbell, Ohio, to the late Andrew and Helen Skripac. She was also the youngest of seven children. Following her graduation from high school, where she was the valedictorian, she saved enough money to attend Youngstown College before moving to Dayton, Ohio, where she began working for the Cole-Layer-Trumble Company. It was there that she met the love of her life, Paul Reinhard, and the two were married in 1950.
Together, Paul and Anna built a loving home centered around faith, family, and service to others. Anna devoted herself to raising their six children while Paul’s work required frequent travel. She was the consummate homemaker, skillfully managing the household, stretching the family income, preparing delicious meals, baking creative birthday cakes, and teaching her children the importance of proper etiquette, grammar, and always writing a gracious thank you note.
Paul possessed a rich and melodic voice and continued singing in church throughout his life. He especially treasured singing at the weddings of his children. Deeply devoted to his Catholic faith, he faithfully attended Mass, prayed the rosary daily, and often prayed for the needs of others. He was wise, generous, kind, soft-spoken, funny, and known for greeting everyone with a warm smile.
Anna shared that same deep devotion to her faith and loved praying the rosary and attending Mass, where she enjoyed hearing Paul sing in the choir or cantor. She had a sharp mind for numbers, a command of the English language, and enjoyed playing cards and participating in plays. She was a talented self-taught knitter and crocheter who lovingly created colorful afghans for her children and grandchildren. Her passion for gardening was reflected in her beautiful flower beds and landscaped yard. Long before holistic medicine became common, Anna researched natural remedies and alternative solutions for everyday ailments. She was wise, witty, and always offered thoughtful counsel to those she loved.
Paul also enjoyed woodworking, landscaping, gardening, and researching family history. He carefully documented the Reinhard family genealogy and lovingly created photo albums for each of his children on their 50th birthdays, chronicling their lives from infancy onward. He was the ultimate handyman and delighted in helping his children with projects in their homes.
Paul and Anna are survived by their children: Cheryl (Bill) Jukich of New Bern, North Carolina; Paula (Scott) Beeken of Cincinnati, Ohio; Gail Mikesell of Chubbuck, Idaho; Brad Reinhard of Charlotte, North Carolina; and Ron (Ronni) Reinhard of Charlotte, North Carolina; their daughter-in-law, Kathy Reinhard of Charlotte, North Carolina. They were preceded in death by their son, Daniel Reinhard, in November 2025.
They are also survived by 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Above all else, Paul and Anna will be remembered for the love they shared with one another, the example of faith they provided to their family, and the kindness and wisdom they extended to everyone fortunate enough to know them.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Paul and Anna on Friday, June 5, 2026, at 11:30 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fort Recovery. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
