Norman W. Alig, age 89, of St. Anthony, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at the Gardens at St. Henry.
He was born on August 10, 1936, in Jay County, Indiana, to the late Henry and Philomena (Homan) Alig.
In addition to his parents, Norman was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Alvin and Joyce Alig; one granddaughter; and his in-laws, Sally (Virgil) Stammen, Harold (Eileen) Heuker, Donald "Tiny" Brunswick, John Heuker, and Charles, Joseph, and Donald Heuker.
Norman is survived by his wife of 64 years, Hilda (Heuker) Alig, whom he married on October 14, 1961; his children, Donna (Paul) Dahlinghaus of New Bremen, Greg (Joanne) Alig of St. Anthony, Dave (Peggy) Alig of Fort Recovery, Kathy (Nate) Carnes of Coldwater, and Rick (Sharon) Alig of St. Anthony; his 18 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren with 7 on the way; his siblings, Kenneth (Beatrice) Alig of Fort Recovery, Dale (Janet) Alig of New Bremen, and Lucy Ann (Steve) Nieport of St. Henry; his in-laws, Marie Brunswick of Fort Recovery, Ed (Sue) Heuker of New Bremen, Susie Heuker of Botkins, and Helen (Bob) Smith of Fort Recovery; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Norman was a 1954 graduate of Coldwater High School and proudly served his country after enlisting in the United States Army, where he was honorably discharged. After returning home, he worked for New Idea in Coldwater for several years and devoted his life to farming.
Norman was deeply involved in his community and faith. He was a member of the Fort Recovery American Legion; the Fort Recovery Knights of Columbus, where he served as Past Grand Knight; the Coldwater Eagles; St. Anthony Catholic Church and St. Anthony Men's Sodality; and the Pioneers.
Above all else, Norman loved his family. Nothing brought him greater happiness than time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, especially taking them on ranger rides around the farm and sharing stories along the way. He found joy and peace outdoors, whether walking in the woods, working the land, or simply appreciating God's creations. In quieter moments, Norman enjoyed camping, woodworking, making homemade wine, playing cards, and putting puzzles together. His steady presence, kind heart, and love for family and community will be deeply missed.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, with Father Alexander Witt celebrating. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in the church cemetery.
