Kathleen “Kate” Marie Wendel, age 82, of Wendelin, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at Mercer Health in Coldwater.
She was born on January 22. 1944, in Celina, to the late Rochus and Mildred (Beyke) Wendel.
In addition to her parents, Kate was preceded in death by her siblings and in-laws, Delores and Andy Schlarman, Marie Wendel, Rita and Robert Wynk, Robert Wendel, Ron Wendel, Don Wendel, Mary and Dan Bruns, and David Kuck.
Kate is survived by her siblings, William Wendel of Chickasaw, Rosann and Clete Prenger of Sidney, Janet Kuck of Chickasaw, David and Eileen Wendel of Fort Recovery, Marjorie and Nick Meier of St. Rose, and Ernest and Marilyn Wendel of Wendelin; her sisters-in-law, Marilyn Wendel and Karen Wendel; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Kate was a 1962 graduate of Fort Recovery High School and spent many years of her life to serving others through her work. Throughout her career, she was employed at Fort Recovery Industries, CTS in Berne, Buckeye of Coldwater, and later retired as a cook for Mercer Health, where she was known for her strong work ethic and caring nature.
A woman of deep faith and service, Kate was actively involved in numerous organizations throughout her life. She was a member of Catholic Financial Life of St. Joe, the St. Rochus Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of St. John, St. Wendelin Catholic Church and its Ladies Sodality, and the Wendelin Sports Club. Her commitment to her church and community reflected the values she held dear and the friendships she cherished.
In her free time, Kate found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved preserving family memories through scrapbooking, getting lost in a good book, and challenging herself with sudoku puzzles. She also enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, spending time outdoors appreciating the beauty of nature, and, most of all, being surrounded by her family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at St. Wendelin Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Guest may visit with Kate’s family on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, and again on Wednesday from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM, at Brockman Boeckman Funeral Home, Fort Recovery.
Memorial contributions may be given to Center for Neurological Development.
