Janet E. Muhlenkamp, age 90, of rural Jay County, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Friday, June 5, 2026, at Persimmon Ridge in Portland, Indiana.
She was born on April 21, 1936, in St. Henry, Ohio, to the late Lawrence and Elizabeth (Heitkamp) Bruggeman.
In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Muhlenkamp, whom she married on November 22, 1956 and who passed away on May 22, 2013; her great grandson, Noah; her siblings and their spouses, Leroy and Catherine Bruggeman, Evelyn and Herbet Sutter, Lavern and Virginia Bruggeman, and Bernice Bruggeman; her brothers-in-law, Arthur Prenger and Richard Buschur; and her in-laws, Alvin and Delores Muhlenkamp, LouAnn and Cletus Knoth, Irma and Elmer Kuess, Jaunita and Paul Buening, and Elaine and Tom Carlisle.
Janet is survived by her children, Michael (Pat) Muhlenkamp of Portland, Karen (John) Shields of Hartford City, Indiana, Keith (Angelika Dickson) Muhlenkamp of Union City, Indiana, Nancy (Dan) Link of Portland, Randy (Ronda) Muhlenkamp of San Antonio, Texas, Jerome (Leslie) Muhlenkamp of Fort Recovery, Jill (David) Hemmelgarn of Portland, and Mary Jutte of Fort Recovery; her 40 grandchildren, 89 great grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren; her siblings, Rosemary Prenger of Chickasaw, Margie Buschur of Celina, and Marlene Calhaun of Arizonia; her in-laws, Lavaugh and Doris Muhlenkamp of Portland, Ivan and Sue Muhlenkamp of St. Joe, Michigan, Ben Muhlenkamp of St. Louis, Missouri, and Kathy and Thomas Coon of Little Rock, Arkansas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Janet attended Coldwater High School and devoted her life to her family, her faith, and the farm. Alongside her husband, she worked on the family farm while raising and caring for her children.
A woman of faith, Janet was a devoted member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, the Ladies Sodality, and the Catholic Order of Foresters. Janet also enjoyed spending time with friends and she also found great joy in flower gardening.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, June 12, 2026, at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Guests may visit with Janet’s family on Thursday, June 11, 2026, from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM and again on Friday from 9:00 AM until 9:45 AM, at Brockman Boeckman Funeral Home, Fort Recovery.
