James A. Fortman

James A. Fortman, 90, of Fort Recovery, Ohio, passed away on Friday, April 23, 2021, at Mercer County Community Hospital in Coldwater.

He was born on July 26, 1930, in St. Anthony to the late Henry and Theresa (Ohlinger) Fortman.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his son, Tim Fortman; his grandson, Andrew Bistrek; his siblings, Noreen Green, Roslie Kampf, Dennis Fortman, Ralph Fortman, and Bernadette Farr; and his son-in-law, Jerry Alder.

Jim was a 1948 graduate of Fort Recovery High School. He worked for New Idea in Coldwater for 47 years until his retirement. Jim served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps and was a member of the Fort Recovery American Legion as well as social member of the VFW. Jim was a member of Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church and the Catholic Knights of America. In his free time, Jim enjoyed gardening and going fishing, especially with his grandchildren.

Jim is survived by his wife of 55 years, Dolores (Litmer) Fortman; his children, Virginia Alder of London, Ohio, Cindy Bistrek of Xenia, Ohio, and David Fortman of Fort Recovery; his grandchildren, Adam (Courtney) Bistrek, Elizabeth (Jay) Alder, Alyssa (James IV) Erbaugh, Jeremy Alder, Lucas (Rachel) Bistrek, Christina Bistrek, Maddi (Ron) Fortman, and Holli Fortman; his great grandchildren, Aiden and Colton; and his sister, Mary Berniece Kampf of Fort Wayne, Indiana.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 AM on Thursday, May 6, 2021 at Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Fort Recovery. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in St. Mary Cemetery.

Guests may visit with Jim's family on Thursday from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM at Brockman Boeckman Funeral Home.
