George Bihn

George Joseph Bihn, 99, 859 Meiring Rd., Fort Recovery, died at 1:40 a.m. Tuesday, June 8, 2010, at Mercer County Community Hospital, Coldwater.
He was born November 26, 1910, in Valley City, Ohio, to the late Sylvan F. Bihn and the late Flora Weigel. On July 15, 1944, He married the late Rose C. Bihn, who died March 11, 2003.
Surviving are Sister-In-Law, Cleopha Bihn of Fort Recovery, OH and a number of nieces and nephews.
Deceased are 1 brother, John Bihn; 4 sisters, Marie Kramer, Frances Fullenkamp, Margaret Knapke & Lucy Borden.
He served as a Mercer County Commissioner for 12 years, served as chairman of the northwest section (26 Counties) of the County Commissioners Association of Ohio, and was recorder for the County Commissioners Association of Ohio. He was a former chairman of the Mercer County Planning Commission and volunteered as chairman of the advisory board of the Department of Human Services in Mercer County. He served as chairman of the Joint Board of Commissioners of the former Tuberculosis Hospital, Lima, Ohio, and was also a state director of the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System. Formerly was a Gibson Township Trustee and was chairman of the Mercer County Township Trustees Association. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce and was treasurer of the Boy Scouts both of Fort Recovery. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 3324, Fort Recovery, and served as treasurer of it's home corporation, and as District Deputy. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in which he served as a Lector and a Eucharistic Minister. He received the 1991 Fort Recovery Masonic Lodge Community Service Award and was chosen as Mercer County's Outstanding Senior Citizen in 1994.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 11, 2010 at St. Paul Catholic Church, Sharpsburg, Ohio, Rev. Thomas Dorn, officiating.
Calling is 4-8 p.m. Thursday and Friday from 9:00-9:45 a.m. at Brockman-Boeckman Funeral Home, Fort Recovery, Ohio.
