Dolly Thien, 94, of Fort Recovery, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at EverHeart Hospice in Greenville.
She was born on December 16, 1931, in Charleston, West Virginia, to the late Roma and Belva (Brabham) Evans.
In addition to her parents, Dolly was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Frank Thien, whom she married on January 8, 1951, and who passed away on February 27, 1999; her children, Wally and Teresa Thien; her brothers, Roma Evans Jr., Harold Evans, Jack Evans, and Orville Evans; her sisters, Josephine VanTrees and Violet Lott; her granddaughter, Amy Sue Thien; and brother-in-law, Bob Urpman.
Dolly is survived by her loving children, Mike (Sue) Thien and Kenny (Judy) Thien, both of Fort Recovery; her sisters, Charlene Uprman of Apache Junction, Arizona, Eileen Evans of Greenville, and Maxine Reynolds of Greenville; her daughter-in-law, Doris (Phil) Sheffer of Fort Recovery; her sister-in-law, Sandra Evans of Portland; as well as 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren with two more on the way, and 3 great great grandchildren.
A graduate of Fort Recovery High School, Dolly began her working career at Westinghouse in Union City, Indiana. She later worked alongside her husband as co-owner and operator of Frank Thein Plumbing, where she was the bookkeeper and secretary.
Dolly was a woman of deep faith and strong community ties. She was a proud member of the Daughters of Isabella Circle 810, the American Legion Auxiliary Post 345 in Fort Recovery, and Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, where her faith remained a guiding force throughout her life.
In her free time, Dolly found great joy in simple pleasures. She loved bluegrass music, traveling to new places, and camping with family and friends. Whether around a campfire or gathered at home, she created a sense of warmth and belonging wherever she went. Her home was always open, her heart always full, and her presence always comforting.
Above all, Dolly will be remembered for her deep love of family, her quiet strength, her generous spirit, and the way she made everyone feel welcomed and cared for. Her legacy is one of love, resilience, and devotion—a legacy that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
