Jerome W. Alig, 89, Portland, Indiana, died June 20, 2012 at Adams Memorial Hospital, Decatur, IN.
He was born July 28, 1922, in Portland, IN, to the late John W. Alig and the late Hilda (Droesch). On April 29, 1944, he married Evelyn (Barga) Alig, who survives.
Also surviving are 3 sons - James (Judy) Alig of Bryant, IN, Robert Alig (Fiancee Rebecca Booher) of Geneva, IN, David (Teresa) Alig of Portland, IN; daughter - Joann (Mark) Heitkamp of New Bremen, OH; 2 brothers - Don (Vera) Alig of Portland, IN, and Richard (Jeanette) Alig of Coldwater, OH; 3 sisters - Dorothy Hein of Montezuma, OH, Bernice Buehler of Coldwater, OH, and Rosemary Heitkamp of Coldwater, OH; 12 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and 2 sisters-in-law - Marceil Alig of Portland, IN, and Levadia Barga of Versailles, OH.
Deceased is two grandchildren, Michael and Randy Alig; infant sister, Viola Alig; and 3 brothers, Joseph, Ralph, and John Alig.
He served in the US Army during World War II. He was employed and retired from Broderick, Muncie, IN and from farming. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, St. Anthony, Ohio and the American Legion, Portland, IN.
Funeral Mass is 10:30 am, Saturday at St. Anthony Catholic Church, St. Anthony, Ohio, the Fr. Richard Walling officiating. Burial is at St. Anthony Cemetery, St. Anthony, Ohio.
Calling is 2:00 pm-8:00 pm Friday and 9:00 am-9:45 am Saturday at Brockman-Boeckman Funeral Home, Fort Recovery, Ohio.
Graveside military honors will be conducted by the American Legion, Portland, IN.
